Happy Midsummer, Saskatoon!
The sun is shining, the wind is hot, and our chiro tables are full. What better way to enter July? Two of our chiropractors, Dr Lindsey and Dr Ali, will be on holiday this month but Dr Janine and Dr Hanne are here to keep you moving. Give us a call to book your next adjustment!
This month, we want to challenge you to be active. I know - it’s July, it’s hot, we all want to stay in the shade. It’s also the perfect time to try something new. Why not spend a sunny afternoon disc golfing with friends? (You might even see our RMT Ashley there! Below, he tells us why he loves the sport.) Or try renting a paddleboard and float down the South Saskatchewan River. We’d love to hear what you, our community, have been up to lately! Leave us a comment and tell us what’s moving you this summer.
Active with Ashley
Disc golf parallels traditional golf except you throw a disc (like a frisbee) at a basket instead of hitting balls with clubs into holes. The goal is to put your disc in the basket in as few throws as possible. Like golf with its clubs, disc golf has different discs to use depending on where you are on the course. There are drivers, mid ranges, and putters. Every disc model will fly differently if thrown appropriately so don’t be surprised to see people on the course with backpacks full of different disks!
Saskatoon has three courses within the city; Warman and Martensville both have 9-hole courses as well. Discs usually cost in the $20-30 range, and most courses are free to visit. However, some courses are within provincial or regional parks and may involve a fee for entry into the park itself.
I love the sport because there is always a better score to chase, always something to learn from the off days, and it’s a great way to stay connected with friends.

Foundation fun fact
A common question that we often get while we are adjusting our patients is, “What is that clicker thing and what does it do?”
The clicker thing is called an Activator and is a small handheld tool that we use to adjust our patients. In addition to the Thompson drop table that we use, the Activator is another tool we use to help your body function better. Find out more in our monthly blog post from Dr Hanne.
Chiropractors’ cooking club
July’s featured recipe is a vegetarian squash laksa bake, adapted from Jamie Oliver. You can easily change up this veggie dish by adding chicken thighs with or instead of the butternut squash! It’s a super-easy recipe that’s great for entertaining, and typically makes enough leftover laksa paste for next time.
Find the full recipe on our blog, and let us know if you try it!
Congratulation to our RMT Carmen, whose wedding took place at the end of June! Make sure to send her well-wishes when you see her around the clinic.
In other news, you may have seen a few new faces around the clinic in recent weeks - we’ve recently welcomed Rhiannon and Amrita to our front desk team! Rhiannon will be at the front desk part-time while she completes her Master’s studies at the University of Saskatchewan. Amrita is in charge of our digitization project, and will be splitting her time between the clinic office and her biomedical sciences degree.
