Picture this, Saskatoon:
The air is chilly, the ground damp from the first weeks of frost. Somewhere near you, a cat yowls into the early evening gloom - at least, you hope it’s just a cat. It’s risky business to be out in Stonebridge when the city is so close to being completely overrun by creeping vines and the creatures you only ever see out of the corner of your eye, but you have a mission and you won’t be stopped so easily. You’re so close now, but you have to be careful; you’ve heard the buildings in this area have been overtaken by the creatures, but you have to see it for yourself before you believe it.
Something slithers behind you, and without looking back you bolt across the cracked asphalt. Everyone knows better than to look directly at the creatures. You sprint through the overgrown grass and past the old coffee shop drive-through, where the shells of looted cars still sit as though they’re waiting for their orders. There’s no time to dwell on what might have happened here, but there’s no point in guessing either. You already know. You just have to hope it won’t happen to you too.
Legs burning, you finally reach the door you’ve been searching for. Somehow the glass hasn’t been smashed like most of the other windows you’ve seen tonight, but the door is unlocked. Is this a good sign? It always used to be unlocked, but you never know anymore. Cautiously, you enter the building, listening for any sign of life, but then you realize: the building is silent, quieter than you’ve ever heard it before. There is no laughter here, no phones ringing, no hushed mechanical thumps coming from the back rooms.
Your spine and legs ache, but you’ve seen it for real now and you have to believe that this is it, that the nightmare is complete. The end of the world is here, but what’s worse is that this, your absolute worst-case scenario, is real: you need an adjustment, but Foundation Chiropractic is no more.
TRICK OR TREAT!
Did we scare you? Never fear - it’s just a Halloween hijink. You see, we’re choosing trick this month - but keep reading for our recipe pick for a healthy fall treat. Happily, Foundation Chiropractic will be open all month to keep the spinal scaries away.
We’re not planning to be overrun by apocalyptic creatures anytime soon, but we will have the following availability in October:
Dr Lindsey will be gone from October 14-18.
Dr Janine will be away on October 11.
Suzanne will be away from October 7-8.
The clinic will be closed for Thanksgiving on October 10.
Foundation fun fact
The human skeleton is a fascinating structure. It has multiple uses and purposes, some of which you might not be aware of. With Halloween and the spooky season approaching, let’s take a deeper dive into the bony part of the human body. Hop over to our blog to learn about the human skeletal structure with Dr Hanne - including some fun facts our front staff didn’t even know!!
Chiropractors’ cooking club
This October, we’re really getting into the spooky swing of things. Our recipe of the month is in keeping with the Halloween mood, but it’s also super fun to make with kids - or for yourself. These Healthy Halloween Mummy Pizzas from Yummy Bowl are gluten-free with a spinach and chicken crust (we know! Chicken!) and feature basic ingredients, which makes them a snap to prepare and bake.
As a bonus, we’ve also picked a healthy dessert - because we all know that’s what Halloween is really about. Well Plated’s Halloween Banana Popsicles are super cute and use vanilla Greek yogurt instead of white chocolate, so you can enjoy them while maintaining a well-balanced diet!
We would love to see your healthy Halloween creations - if you make one of our featured recipes or one of your own, drop us a comment or an email and let us know about your spooktacular dinner!
Our Google review giveaway period has ended - congratulations to our winner Laurena, who won a self-care prize of a SeWheat Teddy bag and an aromatherapy diffuser! Keep an eye on this newsletter for updates about any upcoming giveaways and contests, and make sure to subscribe to our Facebook and Instagram pages for day-to-day clinic news.
For our pediatric patients, we’re running a contest of their very own! Kids can pick up bingo cards at the front desk until the end of October, which they can fill out and bring back before October 31 to enter their names into a fun autumn-themed prize draw. Entries require 1 full bingo line of their choosing. Please refer to the back of the bingo card for further instructions.
Foundation Chiropractic, in cooperation with the Chiropractors’ Association of Saskatchewan, will be running a charity sock drive until the end of November. Our goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of new socks across the province by the end of the month so they can be donated during the coldest time of year. Donations can be made in clinic; we have a donation bin set up by the front desk. We gladly accept new pairs or new packages of socks for the drive, and thank you for your help in reaching our goal!
If you’re participating in Halloween festivities this year, then we hope you have fun and keep safe! Sleep tight, Saskatoon, and don’t let the Stonebridge apocalypse creatures bite.
