We’ve broken the ice on the new year, Saskatoon.
What does 2023 mean to you? Or, perhaps more in keeping with the tradition of resolutions, what will 2023 mean to you, Saskatoon? Each day - and each year - is what you make of it. Resolutions are only the tip of the iceberg; they’re a great roadmap for the new year, but they’re often long-term goals that grow hazy as we progress through the months. We’re trying something a little different in 2023 - instead of a big goal at the beginning of January, we’re splitting our resolutions into smaller, more manageable goals for each month!
Consistently making and committing to new, shorter resolutions means that there’s a greater chance that our goals are never very far away. For example, if your Big Yearly Resolution is to take a trip to Peru, then it’s easy and achievable to split this resolution into six smaller, monthly resolutions:
One month’s goal is researching Peru
The next is creating an informed trip budget based on your research
Then the third is looking at your budget and booking tickets, hotels, and any fun extras according to your new financial plan
The next month is all about getting all your ducks in a row with time off requests, travel insurance, and asking your friends to water your houseplants
Next is building your savings according to your budget and packing well in advance so you don’t forget anything important
Then, of course, in month six you’re actually taking your trip to Peru and making the memories you’ve been looking forward to!
Having little goals makes 2023 seem so manageable, all while still achieving the Big Yearly Resolution. Having little resolutions that contribute to or replace a Big Yearly Resolution is a simple way of bringing mindfulness to your year; it allows you to achieve your goals with a solid plan in place and a timeline while knowing that you’re getting closer to what you want. What are your goals this year, Saskatoon? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Foundation fun fact
New year, new information - what is the Thompson drop table technique and why do we use it? This month’s blog article from Dr. Hanne provides some insight!
“In the world of chiropractic there are many different techniques that are used to analyze and adjust a patient’s spine and to care for patients. If you have been to our office before then you have seen the big, fun tables we use when we adjust. These tables as well as the way we analyze and adjust are based on a technique called the Thompson Technique. This article is meant to give you a little more insight into what the Thompson Technique is, where is comes from, and why we like it so much […]”

Chiropractors’ cooking club
For January’s recipe, we’re running with the theme of new beginnings and fresh starts. To that end, we’re featuring our first-ever breakfast recipe! Love and Lemons’ Best Shakshuka recipe is filling and simple to make, and features a blend of fresh ingredients and pantry staples. As shakshuka is a dish that’s both incredibly easy to make and incredibly easy to adapt, we’ve chosen a recipe that runs the middle of seasoning levels, cook times and techniques, and even ingredients. You can serve shakshuka with toasted crusty bread as is suggested here, or, even better, a warm pita.
Love and Lemons uses a stovetop poaching technique, but if you have an oven-safe skillet you can also try baking the eggs, though keep in mind you’ll have a different texture in baked eggs than in poached; there is also a risk of burning or overcooking the yolks as they can’t be watched as closely in the oven. An excellent quick brunch idea to keep in your back pocket, shakshuka lends itself to experimentation - once you’ve mastered the basic recipe, have fun with it and try making a green shakshuka or adding in any vegetables you have in the fridge!
Updated massage prices now in effect
